Product Description

Hobie Outback Kayak with Mirage Drive

Given a major overhaul, which keeps true to the original Outback's legendary stability and sea-worthiness. The Hobie Outback now has all the best Hobie technology onboard, from the Mirage Drive 180 (with Turbo Fins), Vantage Seat System and built-in H-Rails and H-Tracks for easy aftermarket modifications and additions.

Wider than most Hobie Kayaks (excluding the Pro-Anglers), the Outback is a superb compromise between stability, forward speed and overall weight. The Outback can still be car-topped by one person (in most instances), but wide enough to give good stability, and in calmer conditions stand-up casting is possible. Although the Outback offers exceptional stability, the well-designed hull shape still lends itself to being highly manoeuvrable and having a good forward cruising speed. The Hobie Outback is well capable of tackling most waters found throughout the UK from moderately choppy sea conditions to slow moving rivers, canals and reservoirs.

The Outback of course comes with Hobie kayaks latest Mirage Drive System, and the Outback comes with the ST Turbo Kick-Up fins as standard for increased power, and reduced chance of fin damage in shallower water. The Mirage Drive is incredibly efficient, leaving both hands free for fishing, unless of course you want to switch into reverse, when a short pull on the Drive's toggle switches the fins from forwards to reverse facing. The steering system is controlled by a simple kick-up rudder, with the controls being handily located next to the paddlers seating position. The Hobie outback can also be paddled like a traditional sit-on-top kayaks using the supplied two-piece paddle. Or sailed using a mast and sailing kit (supplied separately) in windier conditions.

Comfort on the Outback is easily achieved by the easily adjustable raised CTW (wide) Vantage Seating System, considered by most to be the best kayak angling seat to date. Plenty of room around the seating area is complemented by a well thought-out set of storage solutions and gives plenty of scope for mounting additional rod holders, a fish finder or camera options if desired.

Features

Mirage Drive 180 Kick Up With Glide Technology

The unique Mirage Drive System is legendary, as no other system come close to its performance, and efficiency. The latest incarnation of the Mirage Drive for the Hobie Outback is the 180, which means it can be simply reversed to allow the kayak to be manoeuvred backwards, invaluable in tight situations! This version has additional technology for a smoother gliding experience, and can easily be adjusted for paddlers/peddlers of various heights and leg lengths.

Vantage Seat

One of the most comfortable kayaking seats ever made. The Vantage CT system found on the original Outback has been upgraded to the CTW seat, providing extra width to accommodate larger paddlers and more overall comfort. With tonnes of adjustability and the ability to raise the seat up and down, the seat system can be adjusted to suit a wide range of paddling and fishing styles. All the adjustability can be done on the water and has been cleverly designed to be simple to tune in a matter of seconds.

On Deck Layout
Over the years Hobie has been industry leading in its innovations for kayak angling, and is constantly striving to provide the best, most versatile on deck solutions for practical kayak anglers. Some of these features on the Outback include:

  • Front and rear H-Rails, only found previously as standard on the Pro-Anglers.
  • Non-Slip standing pads for stand-up casting options, with sound dampening properties!?
  • Huge, rear tank well that can accommodate a H-Crate (supplied separately)
  • Large, central gear compartment that can easily be accessed on the water.
  • 4x Flush mounted rod holders. Side rubber, mesh storage pockets.

Retractable Transducer Shield
To solve the problem of installing a fish-finder transducer into the hull. The Outback has a retractable shield that fits flush with the kayaks hull to protect the transducer against unwanted knocks or shallow water landings. Combined with the thru-hull connections, fitting a Lowrance fish finder is relatively simple, without the need to drill through the hull or mess about with glues and adhesives.

Efficient Bow Design
The updated flared bow design helps to cut through swell, chop and wake without affecting the efficient forward paddling ability of the Outback. Cleverly built into the bow is a cavernous hatch, which can easily accommodate larger trolleys/karts and extra kit storage.

Kick-Up Rudder System
This style of rudder system is simple and easy to use, it also retracts into the hull of the kayak if the user forgets to retract it, and hits an underwater obstacle or enters shallow water.

Sail Mount
Use the wind to your advantage- the Outback has an integral mast foot so that a Hobie Sail Kit (including mast) can be added to the kayak.

Two-Piece Fibreglass Paddle
All Hobie kayaks come supplied with a fibreglass paddle, so that the kayak can be paddled like a traditional sit on top, when the Mirage Drive System isn't being utilised. The paddle splits in half for ease of transport and storage, and can be locked onto the side of the Outback using the handy built-in paddle keeper.
